Killing time

I’m not really sure what has happened over time with this blog. What I’m supposed to do with it? How often? I realized that it is almost 2015 and  haven’t typed a single word here his year. I also realize that I’m typing into the wind since no one will be reading this.

The blog that started as an “Oh my god my dad is sick” tracking tool, morphed into a travel brochure for dummies, and now…..not sure. My dad is still chugging along. We are still travelling. I guess at some point I will be given a sign.

I’ll probably post some events from 2014 that happened, so that I have a more definitive “over time” accounting of things. Let me know if you read this.

South by Southwest

I know not everyone flies a lot or is super travel savvy, but I keep encountering something that is driving me crazy, and this is my outlet for that.

When I fly in the U.S. I pretty much use Southwest to get where I’m going. I won’t bore you with any more detail than that. If you fly Southwest you know they have a unique system of boarding and seating. The problem is that their system requires just a tiny bit of paying attention and some work on your part. You have to identify your spot in line and then stand there waiting to board. How do you think you might find that spot in line? Well first, people should try reviewing the single, solitary piece of information that they were provided by the airline…their boarding pass. The funnier part of the process is watching the dumb people spin around in circles or even better…getting all mad. I’ve decided that the louder they complain or the faster they spin, the dumber they must be. It’s also kind of funny that the cheaper the airline, the smarter you have to be to get on the plane in good fashion. If you pay full fare on British Airways you can probably be dumb as a rock and get to your seat. Oh well…one needs a bit of entertainment while waiting to board a flight, keep up the good work Southwest.

IMAG0019This is out of my window as we were landing in NYC.

Swing and a miss!

Well my Cardinals are off to a semi-slow start and I guess I'm not that great of a fan if I can't get up at 2:00 a.m. to watch them play I thought I would re-visit or visit things that I miss while travelling.

1. - Hamburgers - I wanted to lead with this one because it would give me an excuse to update the "Hamburger clock" - haven't had a hamburger for almost 9 weeks.

2. - Normal business hours. - I was tempted to go with an "all meat" list because I realize now that I also miss steak, but I miss going to work at, or around 8:30 and being normal. Ok, I'm not sure I'll ever be normal, but working until 10:30p.m. and logging off at exactly 8.5 hours isn't my style. Maybe that isn't normal either as I think about it.

3. - Ice cubes - Now don't get all "What's his problem with ice cubes?" on me. I don't personally miss them, it's more of a curiosity to me than anything. I miss them because Jen makes me run down to the basement to get them from the freezer.

4. - Shorts - Ok this might sound weird, but bear with me. I miss throwing on shorts and a T-shirt and being ready for the day. This goes hand in hand with jackets, socks, boots, hat, scarf, gloves. The climate here has been an enjoyable break, but I had forgotten how complicated living with "weather" was.

Only a 4 item list. That isn't too bad huh? There are probably more, but some of them don't make for interesting reading. I have an entire list of things I don't miss....don't worry Tim, I miss you too. I'll save those for another day.

Go Cards!!
