Have you ever run across this person? The person who is apparently at McDonalds for the first time or thinks that Dunkin’ Donuts is a sit down brunch? I get behind these people all the time. This morning I think the guy in front of me was messing with the employees and he was definitely messing with me. You know how Dunkin’ Donuts has all the doughnuts sitting in front of you for the choosing? This guy was, I think, purposefully choosing donuts that they didn’t have and I don’t think they even made them. The girl would smile politely and say, “No sir…we don’t have that flavor today”. Seriously he did this 4 times. “Ummm..you have any of those, ummm doughnuts without the holes? The ones made with coconut flour?” I really love the McDonalds visitors that stare at the menu above the counter like it’s a brand new experience. “Ooooh, hey honey…look, they have Big Macs at this one!” There really needs to be lines for different types of people. I’m not sure how you would get the really dumb people into the right line, but maybe a sign that says, “Do not enter this line. It is off limits!!” They would flock to that one. You know why.
Feed me Seymour!
I wish I had a picture of this…but the other day I took Sam to McDonalds to get his once a month Chicken McNugget fix and I overheard this lady, get this…
Ordering a pizza, while standing in line at McDonalds, WHILE her kid was tugging at her purse begging for a candy bar. For a minute I thought she was going to get to the front of the line while she was talking to the pizza joint. I was watching intently to see how that was going to go down, but Pizza Hut was just too damn efficient that day.
I guess I’ll head out to Wal-Mart and go people watching there. People of Wal-Mart
One stop shopping at Tampa General
I’m sitting in the hospital making my observations for the day and I only have one that jumps out at me right away.
McDonalds
There is a McDonalds in the hospital. ??? It’s somewhat disconcerting to watch the hospital staff wandering in and out of the McDonalds here with Egg McMuffins, hash browns, and other stuff that they are probably fixing on the floors above the McDonalds. Maybe it is to keep the shareholders happy.
“See shareholders? We are committed to keeping the hospital open and profitable by getting money from McDonalds to operate here and keeping the flow of obese, heart patients coming in” I’m walking around trying to find the Hamburgler Heart Wing. I’ll let you know when I find it, but right now I’m going to get a Big Mac.
I’m loving it
Where do you go? Pretend it’s, say, Christmas and for whatever reason you didn’t know what Christmas was. You didn’t buy milk or bread, don’t have any cereal and the kids are crying and starving. Ok the last part was to build the drama. First rule of visiting a new country…find out the local holidays. Here it is midsommar, the Scandinavian equivalent of a combo 4th of July, Labor day, and a touch of Xmas. I knew it was coming and heard that it was a big deal, but I forgot that “big deal” means “Sorry folks, parks closed”. Where do you go? Then it hit me…McDonalds! Nirvana! Once we arrived at McDonalds I realized that McDonalds was an oasis. They had everything I needed. Food, ice, hamburgers, free bathrooms and the menu was its own common language. I could order a Big Mac and be understood. Coke – understood, McFlurry – check, Happy Meal? No problem. McDonalds here even has this wall of recycling. There are slots and pictures on the wall that show you where to put your various trash components so that they can be easily recycled. I left McDonalds thinking that if I ever run into any problems in another country I’m going to be torn. Do I run to the U.S. Embassy or the golden arches?
