A litter bit of this, a litter bit of that…

Ok only two things to post tonight. Late night idiotic things that probably only occur to me.

#1 – I’ve always had this fascination with the “no littering” sign. Here’s my stupid logic. One does not litter, one throws their shit on the ground, at which point it becomes litter. Where the heck did the word litter come from anyhow? I like my straightforward approach better. “Don’t throw your shit on the ground!” They probably use the word litter because they pay by the letter.

#2 – We walked by a place tonight called “The Pretzel Twister”. I remarked that is really should be called “The Dough Twister”. Why would someone twist a pretzel? It’s already twisted. See? I told you my mind is kind of whacked. I didn’t catch Jen rolling her eyes at this observation, but I’m sure it happened.

imageThat’s really it for now. Just be happy I posted something two days in a row. I was inspired that I received a renewal notice for “Welovelarry.com” and figured I’d better step it back up. I’ll keep trying. It’s not as easy as you think to observe. Larry is visiting next week. I think I’ll ask him for some ideas.

I feel like dancing, dancing…

Ok, I’m on a roll, might as well post twice today.

I can’t take credit for the photography in this one, but one of my favorite sources of humor is our local rec. center and their info. sign. I’ll let the joke write itself and if you don’t think it’s funny, that’s ok.

Today I had one of those thoughts or bunches of thoughts and said to myself…”Gotta remember that. That would be a good blog entry”. I have since forgotten what it was.

On another note, we took the kids to get their flu shots and the gods decided to reward me with something to post here anyhow. Presumably until I remember the other thing.

You might have to look closely to see why this is funny, but there are some thoughts about how this happens.

- Someone wrote it down wrong and gave it to the printer?

- Printer got this and didn’t know it was wrong?

- Person who received  the signs didn’t notice it?

- Person who placed the signs in the ground didn’t notice it either?

This is either a whole bunch of indifference or incompetence. Either way it’s slightly funnier that it is for the opening of a new hospital. I hope the doctors here are not “Opening Team memememembers”

People are very crafty in Florida

Ok. I posted this picture on Facebook and got zero responses. This is seriously one of those pictures Jay Leno puts on his show. Did no one seriously let the owner of this Karate school know that his name had some sort of funny double meaning? The crazier aspect of the name and the following picture is that people would take their daughters to Karate class, buy them this uniform and THEN parade them around in the uniform!

The second funny picture of the Wesley Chapel craft show is of the same ilk. The process that had to occur for this guy to print a sign that says this is amazing to me. Here is how that process goes.

a – Come up with an invention and a name for your invention

b – Tell your friends and neighbors about it – at this point someone needed to do this guy a favor.

c – Print things up with the name of the invention – at this point the sign store should have asked if they misspelled the name of the thing.

d – Put up your sign and try to sell your invention – at this point someone like me should have pointed it out to the guy.

I just wanted to run up to the guy and yell “You get an F!” – Here’s the invention:

Grader

C’mon! Grader?

Just for fun here are the definitions from the dictionary of the two words he is confused about.

grad·er   (grā'dər)
n.

  1. One that grades, especially:

    1. One who grades students' work.

    2. A piece of heavy equipment used to level or smooth road or other surfaces to the desired gradient.

grat·er   (grā'tər)
n.  One that grates, as an implement with sharp-edged slits and perforations on which to grate foods.

The last picture from the craft fair is not as funny as it is “Florida”. We speculated on the name of this ice cream stand on our way in, but I couldn’t come up with anything except they named it something dumb so that people would come up and ask why they named it something dumb. At that point people would feel guilty about asking and buy ice cream. Nope. It’s religious in nature. Something about the birth and the death of Jesus. “On the third day he rose from the dead…” I guess on the 4th day Jesus decided on a scoop of Rocky Road with sprinkles. Anyhow…here’s that picture.

Sometimes no title is the best title…

Ahhhh yes, yet another post that may only be funny to me. It involves another one of those signs that you spot and look twice at. I’ve been driving by this sign for a week now and every time I smirk at what I think it says, even if I might know differently. Who knows? Maybe I’m reading it right and the local veterinarian is forming a wind instrument ensemble. I don’t even want to speculate on the belly dancing part. Overall I would have to say that whoever put this sign together needs some sort of help next time.

I saw the sign

For those of you that have been reading here for a while you know that I think I’m clever by finding signs along the way that are silly or funny. Well I’m pretty sure I didn’t have a corner on the market when it came to this, but I had no idea that some other joker had taken the task to a whole new level. Apparently a guy built signspotting, a web site pretty much dedicated to my little hobby of 4 months. When we were in Copenhagen they had a display out in one of the city squares and you could take pictures with replicas of some of the signs. Take a look. These are actual signs from around the world, re-created for this outside exhibit.

Well there ya go. The people who started this have a book, postcards, exhibits…the whole thing. I might have to concede and send in a couple of my shots.

Sign here

You can let me know if you think the sign posts are dumb. Sometimes I just put things here to amuse myself, so it would probably be in vain. Here are a couple from Germany.

This one kills me. I think there is a certain order of expertise you want in any business that comes to your house to work on anything. Here are the choices:

    • Johnson and Sons – this conveys a long history of service passed on through the generations. Mr. Johnson even took the time to teach more than one son huh? Nice.

    • Carroll Family Furniture – Nice family business. Add the “Est. 1859” and you’ve got yourself a winner

Or you could pick this guy out of the yellow pages.

DSCN2716You better hope that Romer Bau shows up also and doesn’t just send the Putz.

Here is one that is either chastising you for not being healthy, or maybe it is just talking about the woman in the picture. I guess it’s probably ok to be a wellness schmuck.

DSCN2728This last one is for my mom. This isn’t a vanity plate. The plates in Germany, I think, are coded by region and number. I guess you’re just lucky in this case if you have the correct name.

      DSCN2717

      Nice car mom.

We’ll leave the lighter out for ya…

Just a short note to follow up on my funny sign series. I almost didn’t take a picture of this one because I thought it might be hard to “get”, but then I realized y’all were smart.

For those of you that don’t get it….first of all it is the sign near the door…not the white arrow with the blue surround. If you are still staring at it, my first thought when I saw it was “How cute. A crackhouse bed and breakfast” If you still not at least smirking I can’t help you.

Sign said, long haired freaky people.....

Sorry Norwegians, but this one is driving me as crazy as the ice cubes. I've been touting your roundabouts and traffic navigation since I got here. I even have one more plug before I harass you. I have only seen ONE stop sign since I got here. Very cool. What isn't so cool is the lack of signs. I think there is probably a happy medium from the US system of putting up a sign every couple of miles to tell you you've gotten two miles closer to your destination and the Norwegian "guess where you are" system. I find that the signs here are usually 10 feet from the turn or not there at all. I've had a couple of those.."The sign said I should turn.....oops" situations. I guess I'm only typing this to get back at them for making me go around the roundabout in Andalsnes like 5 times. There were like 6 choices and since the sign is basically right at the roundabout itself you have 2 seconds to memorize the spokes and then 3 more seconds to actually turn the car. I'm pretty sure the sign for that roundabout looked like this.
